This page explains how Home Straight produces its racing selections, footy tips and bookmaker reviews, and how we keep them independent.
Independence
Our ratings are calculated with the same published method for every bookmaker. Commercial relationships do not change a score, a ranking or a selection. See how we rate for the exact weights.
Racing selections
Racing selections are produced by the Home Straight Racing Deskratings model. It combines each runner's market price, results from its last five starts, market movement, barrier draw over sprint trips, speed map position and the jockey's recent strike rate. Greyhound and harness selections use the same method, with box or barrier draw and driver strike rates in place of the thoroughbred measures. Selections are published automatically and refresh as prices change. Once a race has started we stop showing selections for it, and we never alter a selection after the jump.
Footy tips
NRL and AFL tips follow the team favoured by the median head to head price across the listed Australian bookmakers. The line shown is the median handicap across those bookmakers.
Bookmaker reviews
Review facts are taken from each bookmaker's own website and terms, the ACMA register of licensed wagering providers, state and territory regulators, ABN Lookup and the Australian App Store and Google Play listings. Each review shows the date the details were checked and lists its sources. Anything we could not confirm from a reliable source is marked as not confirmed rather than guessed.
Corrections
If you spot an error, email hello@homestraighttips.com. We review every report and correct confirmed mistakes as quickly as we can.
Responsible gambling
We never describe betting as a way to make money, and every tip carries a reminder that tips are opinion only. Read our responsible gambling page for support services.
